Masquefa

Masquefa is a Catalan city in the province of Barcelona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Anoia.

Location

Masquefa is located approximately 30 kilometers north- west of Barcelona at the foot of Montserrat.

History

De place was first mentioned as Miró I, who together with his brother Borrell II Count of Barcelona was, on 3 March 963 the Castrum Machicepfa sold. The Arabic origin of the place name is rare witness to the brief presence of the Moors in the Barcelona area during the 8th century.

Economy and Transport

About half of the municipal area now serves agriculture, most of the wine of the DO Penedès. In addition, the municipality of La Pedrosa has a larger industrial area, so that today, the industrial sector has a still more important.

Masquefa has two railway stations on the railway line R6 from Barcelona to Igualada.
