Mateo Garralda

Mateo Garralda Larumbe ( born December 1, 1969 in Burlada, Spain ) is a Spanish handball coach who was active as a handball player until 2012. He is 1.96 m tall and weighs 102 kg.

Mateo Garralda began in his hometown Burlada with the handball game. His first league game in the Spanish league ASOBAL he played for BM Granollers before he moved to Atlético Madrid in 1991. Within a year he moved on to Teka Cantabria, where he in 1993, the Spanish Cup, the Spanish Super Cup and the EHF Cup, 1994, the Spanish Cup and the EHF Champions League 1995 Copa ASOBAL and the European Cup Winners' Cup and again in 1996 the Spanish Cup, Copa ASOBAL, the EHF Champions League and the club Championships won. With these recommendations, he signed in 1996 with the record champions FC Barcelona. With the Catalans won it in 1997 and 1998, the Spanish Cup, Copa del Rey de Balonmano, the Spanish Super Cup, the EHF Champions League and the Club Championship and 1999, the Spanish Cup and the EHF Champions League. In 1999 he moved after a dispute with his coach to Portland San Antonio, where he was the 2000 European Cup Winners' Cup and the Club Championship, 2001, the Copa del Rey de Balonmano and the EHF Champions League and in 2002 and 2005 even won the Spanish championship. In 2006 he went - 37 years - again to Ademar León. In 2008 he moved to the Danish first division club KIF Kolding, with whom he won the 2009 championship. From 2011 he played at the Spanish first division club AD Ciudad de Guadalajara. A year later Garralda ended his career and took over as coach of Guadalajara.

Mateo Garralda has played 233 internationals for the Spanish national team. He won bronze at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2000 European Championships, silver at the European Championships in 1996, 1998 and 2006 and gold at the World Cup 2005. During the 2007 World Cup in Germany, he retired with Spain already in quarter-final against Germany and occupied only a 7th place.

Garralda 's a record player and was until May 16, 2011 Record scorer in the Spanish league ASOBAL. As José Javier Hombrados, Mikhail Ivanovich Jakimowitsch and Siarhei Rutenka he has won with three different clubs, the EHF Champions League.

In recognition of his sporting career and his contributions to the Spanish sports he gets on 29 October 2013, Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo.
