Mathis is a city in San Patricio County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city in southeastern Texas on Farm Road 359, near the Interstate 37 to the west of the county, is located in the southeast about 80 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 5.1 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The town was founded in 1887 by Thomas H. Mathis and named after him, when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway moved its tracks by the County.
