Matorisch of the Sayan Mountains in Siberia was spoken near the Mongolian border in the northern region. The speakers lived in the large field of Minusinsk region along the Yenisei River to Lake Baikal.

Our knowledge of the language comes from Russian and German philologists who have traveled the region in the 18th and 19th centuries. Matorisch belongs Selkup and the extinct (old) Kamassisch to the group of südsamojedischen languages. As dialects of Matorischen taiga and Karagass are called, which are regarded by some scientists as well as their own languages. The language had strong contacts with the Turkic languages of the region and to a lesser extent with Mongolian languages.

Matorisch is extinct in the 1840s. The speakers are mainly absorbed in the Altai languages, especially in Khakassian and Tuva.
