Matt Lamb
Matt Lamb ( born April 7, 1932 in Chicago, † February 18, 2012 ) was an Irish- American painter and peace activist.
Life
Matt Lamb was born in 1932 the son of an Irish -born undertaker in Chicago. At 18, he became a partner and later chairman of the board of Blake - Lamb Inc., which quickly developed into one of the leading undertakers of the United States. In 1954, he married Rosemarie Graham, together they have four children. After Lamb with a deadly disease had been diagnosed incorrectly, he sold his company in 1986 and began as a freelance artist pressed.
Lamb decided the remaining time to use him to spread his art works the message of peace, tolerance, hope, understanding and love among men. He established his first studio in Chicago, two more in 1988 in Florida and 1990 on a farm in Wisconsin.
1994 Lamb President of the Midwest Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museums and director of the Vatican Museum Foundation in New York City. In the same year he built in the Saarland Tünsdorf, a district of Mettlach, his fourth studio 2000, a fifth in Paris.
In 2001, the artists in the wake of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 in the USA the project The Lamb Umbrellas for Peace. At the beginning there was a three-day workshop, the Matt Lamb in Washington DC with 38 children led by, who had lost both parents in the attack.
The children selected independently from the umbrellas as the medium on which they expressed their feelings and hopes. The project quickly evolved into one of the largest children's and peace projects of all time.
2003 The Lamb Umbrellas for Peace in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, introduced in the Bundestag and in the two houses of the British Parliament. Since then, 400,000 children have painted umbrellas for peace worldwide.
2003 created Matt Lamb his greatest work of art in the parish of St. Martin in Tünsdorf: The Chapel of Peace Our Lady of Peace - Mary Queen of Peace, which is with its 120 m² of painted surface one of the most impressive wall paintings in Europe and recently received an entry in the Michelin Guide. In Tünsdorf is also the " Matt Lamb Center Of Modern Art ", which presents the artist and his work.
2007 Lamb discovered the Thuringian village church salvors and painted in the spring of 2008 to 130 m² with depictions of Jesus' life. In addition, he founded the German cultural politician Hubert Rohde Schengen Peace Foundation.
Matt Lamb died on 18 February 2012 at the age of 79 years in Chicago to a lung disease.
