Mauro Bernardi

Mauro Bernardi ( born August 11, 1957 in Selva di Val Gardena ) is an Italian mountaineer and former alpine skier. He specializes in the slalom and giant slalom. Later he became one of the patrons of mountaineering in South Tyrol and wrote several books on the subject.

Biography

Bernardi is a member of the Ski Club Gardena since childhood. The first points in the World Cup he won in December 1977 with the fifth in the slalom at Madonna di Campiglio. One month later, a second place in Zwiesel and a third place in Wengen. In the 1978 World Cup in Garmisch -Partenkirchen he went to eleventh place in the slalom at the fifth and in the giant slalom. At the end of the season 1977/78 he finished second in the slalom discipline rating in fifth.

As a result, Bernardi could not keep quite this high level. In the World Cup Winter 1978/79 he went twice in the top ten in the 1979/80 season once. He participated in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid in part, but different in both the slalom and giant slalom from. In 1981 he retired from professional sports. After his resignation to Bernardi became self-employed as a ski instructor and mountain guide. He climbed many mountains, including the Ama Dablam in the Himalayas and the Alpamayo in the Andes.
