MÁV Class V63

The V63 series of the Hungarian State Railways ( MÁV ) is the strongest built in Hungary electric locomotive. Nicknamed the "giant".

History

Until the late 1970s, 20 percent of the total road network in Hungary were electrified. In the early 1990s the route 1 (Budapest - Győr- Hegyeshalom ) was modernized and increased the speed. Since the MÁV then had no high-speed locomotive, ten machines of the V63 were rebuilt. The new locomotives were given the initial number "1" and are designed for 160 km / h designed. By the use of the 1047- series of international trains to Vienna was covered with this series.

Use

The V63 series is based in Budapest - Ferencvaros, Nyíregyháza, and Dombóvár and mostly strung international express trains and heavy freight trains. The modernized vehicles are used on the route Budapest - Hegyeshalom.
