The Main (Russian Майн ) is a 475 km long right tributary of the Anadyr in Russia's Far East.
Course
The Main entfließt the few square miles Mainskoje Lake, which in turn is fed by several short streams. The lake is 240 meters above sea level near the watershed between the Bering Sea and Sea Ochotskischem ( Penzhina ), between the low Penschinagebirge in the west and in the east foothills of Korjakengebirges. It flows in northeastern northern directions to a wide valley in the very sparsely populated forest-tundra zone. East of the village Markowo it reaches the marshy and lakes central part of the Anadyrtieflands already here takes its rightmost branch of Prorwa on and then flows almost 100 kilometers approximately parallel to the Anadyr to the mouth.
At its entire length of Main flows through the Rajon Anadyr of the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug. The only spot on the river is the village Wajegi on the left bank of the middle course of a few hundred mainly Chukch population (the entire 249,700 km ² Rajon has just over 7000 inhabitants).
Hydrography
The catchment area of 32,800 km ² includes Main. The average monthly water flow is about 260 m³ / s ( maximum monthly average in the middle reaches, at Wajegi while the snow melt in June about 1000 m³ / s).
In estuaries near the river is about 500 feet wide and three feet deep; it has here a flow rate of 0.5 m / s
The most important tributaries of the right Palwajam, Bolshoi Kuibiwejem, Wajegi and dorsal, left the Orlowka.
The Main freezes mid-October to late May.
Fauna
The Main is spawning area for sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka ) and chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta ).
Infrastructure
The Main is navigable in the lower reaches for smaller vehicles, but is not regularly used because of its location in dünnbesiedeltem area for inland navigation.
In the catchment area of the river is practically absent any transport infrastructure.
