Měděnec

Měděnec ( German Kupferberg ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers north-west of Klášterec nad Ohri ( Klášterec Eger) and belongs to Okres Chomutov ( Chomutov ).

Geography

Měděnec located on the Bohemian side of the central Erzgebirge on a saddle at the southern foot of the Mednik (copper Karpacz, 910 m). To the north of this mountain rail line Chomutov - Vejprty runs along the railway stations Měděnec and Měděnec zastávka lie.

Neighboring towns are Mezilesí in the north, Kotlina in the northeast, and Louchov Domašín in the east, in the southeast Petlery, Kamenné in the south, and Rájov Mýtinka the southwest, Horni Halže in the west and Kovářská in the northwest.

History

The history of copper mountain is closely associated with the mining, ( Mednik ) was probably operated since the 10th century here at the foot of the copper Hubel and primarily dealt on silver containing copper ores. As a settlement, Kupferberg was first mentioned in 1449. In 1520 she was also awarded the privilege of free silver trade. Thus began a prosperous development.

The 16th century is considered the first heyday of mining. Was funded at that time primarily chalcopyrite and pyrite, which was processed into sulfuric acid and copper and iron vitriol. A corresponding Vitriolhütte is assignable for this time for upper neck ( Horni Halže ). 1543 Hans von Vitzthum owner of Copper Mountain, which previously belonged to the beautiful Burgi 's dominions. Four years later ( 1547) it could be assumed the EU mines under the jurisdiction of mountain Jáchymov ( Jáchymov ). 1581 was the first wooden church.

In 1588, Kupferberg was raised to the mountain town, was free to buy 1616 and henceforth refer to as royal free mining town. Next owner by Kaspar von Vitzthum was Christoph von Taubenreuther, who founded the town brewery in the early 17th century. 1628 acquired the silts Kupferberg and annexed it into the rule Hauenstein.

The decline of the former free mountain town began in 1640, as Kupferberg was burnt down during the Thirty Years' War. In the course of recatholicization Kupferberg remained Protestant, yet many residents moved to Saxony. Ferdinand III. granted the town the right of coinage in 1646. On November 20, 1665 bought Julius Franz of Saxe- Lauenburg Kupferberg, who then assigned the city of his reign slag value.

1807, the mining activities were temporarily discontinued and 1811 was the small town to the imperial chamber, which they sold in 1836 to Gabriel Buquoy. Twenty years later, on July 3, 1856 fell a city fire 19 houses, the church, the brewery and the town hall to the victim. 1872 received Kupferberg a station on the railway line between Chemnitz and Chomutov ( Chomutov ) ( Buštěhrad Railway ). This was the basis for the development of tourism, was the major attraction for the particular copper Karpacz. Wilhelm von Humboldt called him ... one of the best views of Central Europe .... By Maria auxiliary Tolln 1910 ( reopened in 2007 ) one of the mines on the copper Hubel was opened as access to Malachithöhlen for tourists.

The mid-1950s provided geological surveys evidence on mineable previously unknown magnetite deposits. The then newly built mine began on 17 May 1968, the mining, was discontinued after the extensive Auserzung the deposit on 31 July 1992. During this time the pit promoted almost 2.7 million tons of ore with an average iron content of 35%. The iron was i.a. used for the heavy concrete shielding of the Temelín nuclear power plant. The Mary Help of Stolln Měděnec is a selected site for the intended candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage mining region Erzgebirge.

The municipality consists of the villages Dolni Měděnec Halže (lower neck), Horni Halže (upper neck), Kamenné ( Stone Green ), Kotlina ( Köstelwald ) Měděnec ( Kupferberg ) and Mýtinka ( Rödling ). Basic settlement units are Horni Halže, Kamenné, Kotlina, Měděnec and Mýtinka.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Horni Halže, Kamenné, Kotlina, Měděnec and Mýtinka.
