Meg Stuart

Meg Stuart (born 1965 in New Orleans) is an American dancer and choreographer, who lives in Brussels and Berlin.

Life

Meg Stuart studied at New York University with a BFA degree in professional dance. From 1986 to 1992 she was a member of " Randy Warshaw Dance Company ". Her first play, " Disfigure Study " she wrote in 1991 for the " Klapstuk Festival" in Leuven. In 1994, she founded in Brussels, the own company "Damaged Goods ". As a result, she has worked with many artists. In 1997, Stuart was Artist in Residence at the Brussels Kaaitheater. At the Schauspielhaus Zurich they had from 2001 to 2004 an engagement as Artist in Residence, then at the Volksbühne am Rosa- Luxembourg - Platz in Berlin from 2003 to 2010, and since then she has been working at the Munich Chamber games. Partners were, inter alia, the theater directors Stefan Pucher, Christoph Marthaler and Frank Castorf.

With Damaged Goods Stuart created more than 20 productions. She initiated several improvisational projects, their works have been 7 2008 shown in Bolzano at the 1997 documenta X in Kassel, Manifesta. She received the 2006 Theatre Award The fist for replacement, 2008, both the " French Critics Prize " for BLESSED as well as the " New York Dance and Performance Award " ( Bessie Award) for her body of work. In 2012 she was awarded the Konrad Wolf Prize.

Meg Stuart has a son (* 2003).
