Meherpur District

Meherpur ( Bengali: মেহেরপুর জেলা, Meherapur Jela ) is an administrative district in the southwest of Bangladesh with about 580,000 residents, located within the Division Khulna. The district capital is also called Meherpur.

The 716.08 km ² large district is bordered to the west by the Indian state of West Bengal, on the east by the Bangladeshi districts Kushtia and Chuadanga. The largest rivers are Bhairab, Mathabhaga and Kazli.

Until the Partition of India in 1947, the area belonged to the district of Nadia.

Meherpur is dominated by agriculture, main crops are chillies, jute, sugarcane, tobacco and sweet potato.
