Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people ( Crimean Tatar Qırımtatar Milliy Meclisi; Russian Меджлис крымскотатарского народа; Ukrainian Меджлiс Кримськотатарського Народу ) is the central executive body of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatars, who live in their homeland, the Crimea in today's Ukraine. Since 2013 Refat Tschubarow is the 34th chairman of the Majlis; its predecessor was Mustafa Abduldschemil Dschemilew.

The Majlis was founded to act as the representative body of the Crimean Tatars, the complaints may be addressed to the Central Government and international bodies in 1991.

On 30 June 1991 the Majlis declared its sovereignty over the Crimean Tatars and participated in the Crimean Tatar national anthem and national flag. Simultaneously, the Crimean Tatars chose 14 Crimean Tatar deputies to the Supreme Council of Crimea. These 14 MPs were the first Crimean Tatar representatives in the Parliament of Crimea for over 50 years.

On 6 April 2010 demanded more pro-Russian political leaders in the Crimea, the resolution and the prohibition of the Mejlis and all other forms of political representation of the Crimean Tatars (including the Kurultai ) - with the claim that it is " organized criminal groups and their activities unconstitutional have. During the parliamentary elections in Ukraine 2012 members joined the Majlis election list fatherland.
