Melpignano
Melpignano ( in the Greek dialect Lipignana ) is a Southeast Italian commune ( comune ) with 2242 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Lecce in Puglia. The municipality is situated approximately 24.5 kilometers south-southeast of Lecce Salento in the middle.
History
From the Bronze Age still bear witness Memnhire and dolmens of the early settlement. 267 BC, the Romans conquered the city of the Messapians.
Community partnership
Melpignano has since 2009 an intra- Italian partnership with the community Montemarano in the province of Avellino.
Traffic
Passing through the municipality, the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica. The Ferrovie del Sud Est railway station serves the Melpignano on the track Lecce - Maglie - Otranto.
