Mendrisio

Mendrisio is a municipality and capital of both the homonymous district in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The German and Lombard Name Mendris is outdated and is no longer used.

Mendrisio merged on April 4, 2004 with the former municipality Salorino. On April 5, 2009, the merger of the municipalities Arzo, Capolago, Genestrerio, Mendrisio, Rancate and Tremona merged to Mendrisio became final.

On April 13, 2013 Meride was incorporated.

Geography

Mendrisio is located approximately 18 km south of Lugano and is approximately 5 km from the border with Italy. The municipal area stretches to the picturesque area " Bella Vista " on the Monte Generoso.
