Menthonnex-en-Bornes

Menthonnex -en- Bornes is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Menthonnex -en- Bornes is situated at 800 m above sea level. M., about 17 km north of the town of Annecy (air line). The scattered settlement community extends a scenic location on the western slope of the plateau of Bornes, above the valley of Usses, south of the Salève, in Genevois.

The area of ​​8.48 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the Bornes Plateau. The western boundary runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhône. This water flows in a wide valley to the south and separates the crest of the Salève from eastern Bornes plateau. From the Talniederung the communal land extends eastward over a relatively gently sloping hillside down to the plateau, on the 964 m above sea level. M. is achieved the highest elevation of Menthonnex -en- Bornes. Several tributaries of the Usses drain the plateau slightly incised gullies, including the Ruisseau du Grand verray, which forms the southern boundary of the municipality.

History

Menthonnex -en- Bornes (formerly just called Menthonnex ) was first mentioned in writing in the 15th century.

Attractions

The village church of Menthonnex -en- Bornes was built in the Gothic Revival style. Also worth seeing is the chapel of Notre Dame de la Salette.

Population

With 969 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Menthonnex -en- Bornes is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In the first half of the 20th century, the population decreased continuously (1901 counted Menthonnex -en- Bornes still 633 inhabitants). Since the early 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Menthonnex -en- Bornes is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Some of the working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in the Geneva - Annemasse and Annecy.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Cruseilles Bornes on the plateau to La Roche- sur -Foron. Further road links exist with Arbusigny, Villy -le- Bouveret and Groisy. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 11 km.
