Méricourt, Pas-de-Calais
Méricourt is a commune with 11,812 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais Nord-Pas -de- Calais region. It belongs administratively to the arrondissement of Arras and the cantons Le Bourget Rouvroy.
Geography
The municipality is located in the metropolitan area southeast of the town of Lens. Neighboring municipalities are:
- Sallaumines in the north,
- Fouquières -lès- Lens and Billy - Montigny in the Northeast,
- Rouvroy in the east,
- Acheville in the southeast,
- Arleux -en- Gohelle in the south,
- Vimy in the southwest and
- Avion in the West.
History
The community was dominated for decades by mining until the two mines closed their doors in the 1980s, and since then she is confronted with the consequences of structural change.
