Michalok

Michalok ( also Michalock German, Hungarian Felsőmihályi - to 1907 Mihalko ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 318 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), the Region is located in the Okres Vranov nad Topľou, part of Prešov and the traditional landscape Zemplín heard.

Geography

The municipality is located on the southern edge of the Low Beskid, more precisely on the edge of the highlands Ondavská Highlands, on the upper course of the stream Čičava. The center is located at an altitude of 256 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou away.

History

Michalok was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1287 as Myhaly (other sources give 1363 as the only Myhalkfalua ).

1787 were counted 42 houses and 361 inhabitants in 1828 50 houses and 366 inhabitants. Main source of income was and is agriculture.

1899 have settled German farmers from the area of ​​Tachau in Bohemia. They were skilled carpenters, many worked in the mercury mine in neighboring Mernik. 1944, the German inhabitants were expelled.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Semplin place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Michalok 320 inhabitants, of whom 307 Slovaks. 13 inhabitants did not know. 190 inhabitants pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church AB 107 inhabitants, eight inhabitants of the Greek Catholic Church and a resident of the Reformed Church. With 14 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
