Mickiewicz Battalion

The Mickiewicz Battalion in the International Brigades was like the Dabrowski Battalion and the Palafox Battalion a predominantly Polish Battalion in the Spanish Civil War. It was named after the Polish poet and patriot Adam Mickiewicz.

The battalion was formed from the Mickiewicz Company of the Palafox Battalion. The company was established on November 18, 1936 in Albacete, the training camp of the International Brigades. It was the former name of Louise -Michel Battalion, the designation No. 11 Mickiewicz company was assigned to the Battalion Chapaev first. It was between 4 and 27 October 1937 Members of the XIII. International Brigade ( Dabrowski ).

On September 24, 1938 had the government of the Spanish Republic, partly because of pressure from the League of Nations, dissolve the International Brigades. The Mickiewicz Battalion was up to that time part of the XIII. International Brigade ( Dabrowski ).
