Mihai Stoichiță

Mihai Stoichiţă ( born May 10, 1954 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. He played 215 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A. As a player he won in 1974 with Jiul Petrosani the Romanian Cup, coached Steaua Bucharest the championship in 1998. Since the summer of 2013 he has been head coach of Al Salmiya Club in Kuwait.

Career as a player

The career of Stoichiţă began in 1973 at Jiul Petrosani in Divizia A. Although he struggled with his club in the league against relegation, he won in 1974 with his team in the final against Politehnica Timişoara Romanian Cups. In the following seasons, he struggled with Jiul first to the relegation before the club finished the 1976/77 season in fifth place and qualification for the UEFA Cup just missed. In the following years, his club fell back into the lower regions of the table.

In the summer of 1981 he left Jiul to Progresul Vulcan Bucharest, had to descend with his new club at the end of the 1981/82 season in the Divizia B. After the direct resurgence had been missed, he moved to CS Târgoviste back to the top flight. Even with his new club he had to dismount. During the winter break 1984/85 he returned to Progresul. He missed almost twice the return to the Divizia A. In the summer of 1986 he moved to first division Gloria Buzău. There he had to descend again at the season 1986/87. At the beginning of 1988 he moved to Autobuzul Bucharest, where he half a year later his playing career ended.

Career as a coach

In the summer of 1988 was Stoichiţă assistant coach at his former club Progresul Bucharest, who was now relegated to the Divizia C. In the summer of 1992, he took over Autobuzul Bucharest in Divizia B. A year later he became an assistant coach at Dinamo Bucharest Florin Halagian before he Dumitru Dumitriu assisted from the summer of 1994 with Steaua Bucharest. The team won the next three years, always the Romanian championship. After Dumitriu was changed in the summer of 1997 to AEK Athens, he became his successor and took the championship in 1998 his first title as a head coach. Only a few months after this success, he was released in October 1998 and replaced by Emerich Jenei.

In the summer of 1999, he was head coach of FC Naţional Bucharest in Divizia A. There he joined with his team the 1999/ 2000 on a place in midfield from. He then took over the Bulgarian Litex Lovech first division. He was released in October 2000. In January 2001 Stoichiţă took over the national team of Panama. After he had failed to qualify for the Gold Cup 2002 Copa Centroamericana the Nations Cup in 2001, the way in summer 2001 separated again.

At the beginning of the year, 2002, the Moldovan Stoichiţă first division club Sheriff Tiraspol. After the Cup 2002, he took over as the successor of Ersun Yanal the Turkish first division club MKE Ankaragucu. In early May 2003, he became coach of Armenia. The team completed the qualification for Euro 2004 from fourth place. His contract was not renewed in the summer of 2004. In early 2005 he inherited Sorin Cârţu as head coach of Oţelul Galaţi. In the summer of 2005 he had to give Aurel Şunda. Shortly after he took over the Kuwait national team. After he had failed to qualify for the Asia Cup 2007 as a result of the lost direct comparison against Bahrain, he was released in December 2006.

In the summer of 2007, he took the Cypriot first division side Aris Limassol. At the end of the 2007 /08 his team was relegated. In early 2009 Stoichiţă head coach of AEL Limassol. He led the club in the 2008 /09 season, although in the final round for the championship, completed this but from last place and failed to qualify for the European Cup. In summer 2009, parted ways again. In September 2009, he inherited Cristiano Bergodi at Steaua Bucharest. He could not win the desired Championship in the 2009 /10 and was released in summer 2010. Then signed him league rival Astra Ploieşti. Here he had his place end of August 2010 evacuate after his team had taken just three points after five games. A few weeks later, he signed back in to AEL Limassol. His third commitment in Cyprus was also not successful, because he was dismissed again in February 2011.

In October 2011 he was appointed as successor by Constantin Stancu head coach of CS Mioveni in the Romanian League 1 He dissolved his contract just a month later in favor of a commitment to Apollon Limassol again. In March 2012 he left Cyprus, as he once again had the opportunity to coach Steaua Bucharest. Also in the 2011/12 season he could not lead the championship and was released after the season Steaua. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season Stoichiţă was the second time head coach of Sheriff Tiraspol. Although Sheriff was on championship course, the paths beginning April 2013 parted again.

Since the summer of 2013 he coached the Kuwaiti club Al Salmiya.
