Mikael Imru

Mikael Imru ( born November 10, 1929 in Addis Ababa, † October 2008) was from 3 August to 12 September 1974 Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

Biography

Imru was the only son ( he had seven sisters) of Prince Imru Haile Selassie and Tsige Mariam born. He studied at the University of Oxford in England, and then returned to his home country. He first worked in administration and was from 1958 to 1959 Deputy Minister of Agriculture. He then moved into the diplomacy and was first ambassador in Washington, DC (1959-1961), then in Moscow ( 1961-1965 ). For a short time between these diplomatic post he was foreign minister of Ethiopia in 1961. From 1965 to 1968 he worked in Geneva, UNCTAD, an agency of the United Nations. After 1974 he was first grown Commerce and Industry Minister, he took over as the successor of Endelkachew Makonnen on August 3, 1974, the Office of the Government. After the final fall of his distant relatives Emperor Haile Selassie he was removed from his post on 12 September. Yet he remained until 1975 as Information Minister in the government. Later he became an expert on rural development and World Bank staff. He sat down with the Italian government very strongly for the return of looted art objects from Ethiopia.
