Mike McLeod

Mike McLeod (actually Michael James McLeod, born January 25, 1952 in Dilston, Northumberland County ) is a former British long-distance runner.

International Has appear mainly in the 10,000 -meter run. In the Commonwealth Games 1978 in Edmonton, he won, starting for England, over this distance the bronze medal behind Brendan Foster and Michael Musyoki. At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, he reached the twelfth.

1981 and 1982 McLeod won the first two sweeps of the Great North Run. At the World Cross Country Championships 1982 in Rome, he was fifth on the long distance and won a silver medal with the English team. Previously, he had won in the team classification in 1977 as 43 silver, 30 bronze 1978 and 1979 as 14 gold.

The greatest success of his career, McLeod celebrated by winning the silver medal in the 10,000 -meter run at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Originally, he had reached the goal third behind Alberto Cova and Martti Vainio. However, he moved in the standings by one rank after Vainio was disqualified for doping.

1988 in Seoul took McLeod a second time at the Olympics in part to the 10,000 m but failed to qualify for the final.

Mike McLeod is 1,80 m tall and weighed about 63 kg competition times. He started for the Elswick Harriers. His younger brother Tony McLeod was Olympian in biathlon.
