Milenge, Zambia

Milenge is a place in the province of Luapula in Zambia. It is located some 1,150 meters above sea level and has approximately 4,000 inhabitants. In it, the administration of the district of the same their headquarters, the district has 28,790 inhabitants ( 2000 census ). In the south of the Luapula flows and forms the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Economy

Large parts of the district is covered by the southern foothills of Bangweulusümpfe. Agriculture and fishing are the main sources of income. Crops are cassava, millet and maize. There are 500 beekeepers who produced five tons of honey in 2004. It is a poor and underdeveloped district. In Milambo there is a large maize -growing region.

Infrastructure

A 160 km long, not gravel road leading to Mansa. The road to Ndola in the Copperbelt is 130 km long and for sales used the most. In Lwela mission there is a simple hospital for the entire district.
