Miljenko Jergović

Miljenko Jergović ( born May 28, 1966 in Sarajevo) is a Bosnian writer, poet and essayist.

Life and work

Yugoslavia

The first newspaper and book articles he published in the late 1980s. In addition to the journalistic work he first began to write poetry. For his first collection of poems Opservatorija Varšava (1988 ) he was honored with the poetry prices, " Goran " and " Mak Dizdar ". It was followed by the poetry collections Uči li neko Nocas ovom u gradu japanski? ( Learn German tonight in this city anybody japanese? , 1990) and Sky Commando (1992).

In 1993, the Jergović since April 5, 1992 besieged by the Yugoslav People's Army Sarajevo.

Croatia

Since May 1993 he has lived and published his works in the Croatian capital Zagreb. The international readership, he was known by the collection of short stories Sarajevski Marlboro (1994 ) (Engl. Sarajevo Marlboro, 1996), for which he won international awards.

Mama Leone (2000), Buick Rivera (2006), Freelander (2007) and Dvori od oraha ( German Walnut House, 2008) are the best known of his recent books.

On 16 April 2007 he resigned from the Croatian Writers' Association of the grounds that his membership in contrast to his attitude and his relationship to the Croatian literature and literature from across the stand.

Jergović published newspaper articles and essays in Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian newspapers. After years of collaboration with the leftist satirical political weekly newspaper Feral Tribune from Split, he has been writing since 2000 for the Croatian news magazine world.
