Milkha Singh

Milkha Singh ( born October 17, 1935 in Lyallpur, now Pakistan ) is a former Indian sprinter.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, he left more than 200 m and 400 m in the flow.

In 1958 he won at the Asian Games in Tokyo gold over 200 m and 400 m and at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff gold over 440 yards.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he was over 400 m in fourth with his personal best time of 45.6 s, with only 0.1 seconds behind the third Malcolm Spence.

In 1962 he defended at the Asian Games in Jakarta his title in the 400m. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he left in the 4 x 400 meters relay with the Indian team in the lead.

Milkha Singh is Sikh. With the partition of India, he lost both parents. In 1958 he was awarded the Padma Shri. He married the volleyball player Nirmal Kaur; Jeev Milkha Singh, her son is a successful professional golfer.
