Mino Cinelu

Mino Cinelu ( born March 10, 1957 in Saint- Cloud, France ) is a French jazz and pop drummer.

The son of a product originating in Martinique father first learned to play guitar before he self-taught himself trained as a percussionist. In addition, he also plays the bandoneon, flute and occurs as a singer.

He became famous in 1981 as a percussionist on Miles Davis ' live album We Want Miles. Also on the album Star People, Decoy and Amandla from Davis he worked with. At the same time he worked with Weather Report, on whose albums Sportin ' Life, and This Is This! he also appeared as a guitarist.

He subsequently worked with many famous jazz musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans, Pat Metheny, Cassandra Wilson, Herbie Hancock, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Wayne Shorter, Branford Marsalis ( Buckshot LeFonque ) Al Di Meola, Paquito D' Rivera, Geri Allen ( The Gathering 1998), Gato Barbieri, George Duke, Marcus Miller, Christian McBride, Jacky Terrasson, Eliane Elias, Robin Eubanks, Nguyên Lê, David Sanborn, Toots Thielemans, Pino Daniele, Andy Summers and pop musicians such as Sting, Carlos Santana, Tori Amos, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Tracy Chapman, Sophie B. Hawkins, Duncan Sheik, Michael Franks, Peter Gabriel, Joe Cocker, Elton John, Salif Keïta, Chaka Khan, Curtis Mayfield, Joni Mitchell, Youssou N'Dour, Bonnie Raitt, Patti Smith, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Emmylou Harris and the cabaret singer Charles Aznavour together.

1995 Cinelu played with Dave Holland and Kevin Eubanks album World Trio a 1996 with Kenny Barron Swamp Sally. In 1999 he released his first solo album Mino Cinelu on which he was accompanied by Mitch Stein and Richard Bona. The end of 2002 he published his second CD Quest Journey. Here worked alongside Mitch Stein, the guitarist Bill Frisell and Gerry Leonard, keyboardist Don Blackman, the DJs Logic and Nickodemus, the singer Toni Smith, the rapper Da Lioness and bassist Leo Traversa with.

Cinelu won three Grammys and was named Chevalier dans l' Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
