Mirriah is a department in the region of Zinder in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the south of the country. It consists of the town of Zinder, the municipality Mirriah and the rural communities Dogo, Droum, Gaffati, Gouna, Hamdara, Kolleram and Zermou. The eponymous capital of the department is Mirriah.

History

After independence in 1960, Niger's territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Mirriah. 1964 was divided into seven administrative reform Niger departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. As part of the district Mirriah was converted to the district Mirriah. The educator Souleymane Ly headed from 1967 to 1968 as a sub- prefect of the arrondissement. The late Prime Minister Mamane Oumarou 1975 was sub-prefect of Mirriah.
