Mirza Saleh Shirazi

Mirza Saleh Shirazi (Persian میرزا صالح شیرازی ), ( * 1790 in Kazerun, † 1845), was a Persian ambassador and publisher.

Life

Saleh Shirazi had the British ambassador in Tehran Gore Ouseley, the father of Frederick Ouseley met. He studied Hebrew, in order to lay the New Testament in Persia. 1814 Ouseley went with Mirza Ali Saiyad Khan to Saint Petersburg. There sat Saiyad Ali 1815, the New Testament in Persian in Hebrew letters. Fath Ali Shah was at the instigation of Ouseley a copy of the work. He thanked in a letter for at Ouseley.

1815 Saleh Shirazi was sent with the delegation of Abbas Mirza to London, where Saleh Shirazi remained as Minister until 1823. Besides his work as a diplomat Mirza Salih Shirazi used his stay in London and studied from 1815 to 1819 at the University of Oxford. Besides, he learned the trade of printer, as he toyed with the idea of ​​introducing the modern printing press in Iran. Already in 1819 he opened a print shop in Tabriz

With the help of a chaplain of the East India Company, Rev. Henry Martyn, BD (* February 18, 1781, † October 16, 1812 ) revised Mirza Saiyad Ali Khan his Persian translation of the New Testament and brought it out now with Persian characters. 1837 moved Saleh Shirazi during the reign of Mohammed Shah, the monthly magazine Akhbar.
