Mission is a city in Hidalgo County in the U.S. state of Texas.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 83 and Highway 107 in southwest Texas, is in the south 7 km from the Rio Grande and the border with Mexico, approximately 110 km to the east from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 62.5 km ² without appreciable water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 45,408 people in 13,766 households and 11,384 families. The population density was 726.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 77.63 % White, 0.37 % African American, 0.38 % Native American, 0.63 % Asian, 0.01 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 18.64 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 2.34% were of mixed descent, and 81.03 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
