The Mitta Mitta River is a river in the north of the Australian state of Victoria and a major tributary of the Murray River, which it supplies about 40 % of its volume of water.

The source is located south of the Alpine National Park on the Great Alpine Road between Omeo and Anglers Rest at the confluence of Big River and Cobungra River. From there, the river winds 204 km to the north, where it flows south of Albury in the Murray River.

Two major reservoirs, Lake Dartmouth on the upper reaches of Lake Hume and the lower reaches, inhibit the river. Above the Lake Dartmouth, the river flows through a forest, which can be described almost as primary forests. Below it winds through flat farmland ( which is now irrigated with its water).

The natural flows into the Murray River today lies in Lake Hume. Previously, the river valley was inundated annually, but the construction of the Dartmouth Dam in the 1970s prevented this from occurring.

The Mitta Mitta River is considered a good fishing waters; one finds brown trout and the occasional rainbow trout.
