Mlynica

Mlynica ( until 1948 slovak " Milbach "; German mill creek, Hungarian Malompatak until 1907 mill creek ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with 455 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Poprad, which is a part of the overall district Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the basin Podtatranská kotlina (sub - Tatra boiler) at the foot of the High Tatras in the traditional landscape Zips, the creek Cerveny creek that flows behind the place in the river Poprad. Mlynica is six kilometers from Poprad and ten kilometers from Kežmarok.

History

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1268. It is located on the site of an ancient Slavic settlement that was settled after the devastating Mongol invasion in 1241 by German colonists who preserved the majority until the 20th century. The name refers to the mills which no longer exists, a symbol of the dominant even today agriculture. In the late 13th century mill creek belonged to collar the Saxons and the Bund 24 Zipser cities, but transformed over time into a simple village, which belonged to Spis Castle. The last landowner was the family Csáky. The place was the first community in the Zips, adopted Protestantism.

Until 1918, the place was in the county Zips in the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia. After the end of the Second World War, the German population was expelled and settled by Slovaks from Vikartovce and Slovak communities in Poland.

Attractions

  • Built Roman Catholic Church of St. Margaret of Antioch, in the 13th century and has since been converted several times. In the church is a part of the work of Paul of Leutschau, a late Gothic winged altar
  • In a Protestant church built in 1830 was a classic car museum, but in 2009 moved to the nearby town Kežmarok
