Mogocha

Mogocha (Russian Могоча ) is a small town in the region of Transbaikalia (Russia) with 13,258 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies at the foot of in the eastern Transbaikalia extending Amasargebirges, about 600 kilometers east-northeast of the regional capital of Chita. Here flows the river Mogocha in the amasar, a left tributary of the Amur.

The city is Mogocha since 1926 administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Mogocha. The city is the settlements Medweschi Kliuch, Rasdolnoje and subordinated administratively to the railway station Penkowaja.

Climate

History

The village was founded in 1908 in connection with the construction of Amureisenbahn towards Khabarovsk, as here, a large station was built. From 1947 to 1953, the management of the Klyuchevsky - punishment camp ( " Kljutschewlag " ) was located in Mogocha in the Gulag system. Up to 3,000 prisoners were mainly used in the molybdenum and gold mines in the 40 to 50 kilometers southwest settlements Dawenda or Klyuchevsky.

In Mogocha is an important station of the Trans-Siberian Railway ( 6906 line kilometers from Moscow; electrified since 1994).
