Mohammed V University
The Mohammed V University (Arabic: جامعة محمد الخامس, DMG Ǧāmi ʿ at Muḥammad al - HAMIS ) in Rabat is the first university in Morocco. It was founded by royal decree ( Dahir ) 1957.
It was in 1961 named after Mohammed V, the first king after the 1956 regained independence of Morocco.
In 1993 the university was divided into two independent institutions:
- Mohammed V University Agdal in a scientific and a humane, legal and economics faculty
- Mohammed V University in Souissi with a medical school, the academic year 2005/2006 approximately 18,500 students were enrolled.
The currently reigning King Mohammed VI. , Grandson of the namesake, closed at this university in 1985 his law studies.
