Moldejazz

The Molde International Jazz Festival ( MIJF ), Molde Jazz is one in July in the port city of Molde held annually in Norway since 1961 jazz festival of international standing.

The festival was initiated by the local Storyville Jazz Club as a weekend festival and received state support since 1964. Over time, it grew to an annual attendance of 80,000 to 100,000 for a duration of one week. In addition to jazz musicians from the rock, pop music, blues, and world music occur. About half of the approximately 140 concerts (2013 ) are free.

Here were common Jan Garbarek, Karin Krog, Niels -Henning Ørsted Pedersen and John Scofield on.

Tradition is a daily parade of jazz musicians along the lines of New Orleans Street Parades, and for years the New Orleans musician Lionel Batiste led to this.

It is with the Kongsberg Jazz Festival and the Oslo Jazz Festival is one of the three major Norwegian jazz festivals. The Norwegian jazz prize prizes Buddy (named after Buddy Bolden ) was temporarily given here.

The concerts will be broadcast on Norwegian radio and television. Accordingly, there is already a movie from the 1962 festival ( with Karin Krog, Arne Domnerus Orchestra, Idrees Sulieman, Lucky Thompson).

Some compositions have been given and composed specially for the festival in order. Molde Canticle of the Jan Garbarek and the composition Break of Day in Molde ( 1969) by Karin Krog by Ida Lupino by Carla Bley are known.

2001 to 2012 it was led by Jan Ole Otnæs (* 1951).
