The Monte Pisanino

The Monte Pisanino is a mountain in the Apuan Alps in the provinces of Massa -Carrara and Lucca in Italy. He is the highest mountain in the region of Tuscany. Its highest peak is in the municipality of Minucciano (Lucca province ) and is one of the Garfagnana area.

Legend of the naming

The inhabitants of the region call the place Pizzo della Caranca. The name Monte Pisanino comes from a legend in which two deserted Pisan soldiers towards Garfagnana flee. The first died on the run, the second is violated refuge with a local family. The daughter of the family falls in love with the soldiers, but dies shortly thereafter. According to legend, the mountain was formed, as the grieving lovers, every time she visited his grave, a tear lost, who transformed himself into a stone and so was the mountain that was called from there to The Pisan (Pisa Nino ).
