Band History

Mortal Sin were founded by Mat Maurer ( vocals) and Wayne Campbell in 1985. Together with guitarist Keith Krstin and Paul Carwana, and bassist Andy Eftichiou they recorded their debut album Mayhemic Destruction and published it in the self-distribution. Inspired by Metallica speed and thrash metal attracted the attention of major labels Phonogram who took it up in 1987 in their distribution and published with altered cover artwork worldwide. After the uptake increased from Keith Krstin and made room for Mick Burke (ex - Slaughter Lord ). In 1988, Mortal Sin embarked on a support tour for Metallica.

In 1989 the album Face of Despair, the second release of Mortal Sin. A European tour opening for Testament and Faith No More follows the publication. However, it also came here again a substitution, Steve Hughes, another ex-member of Slaughter Lord, took over the drums. Upon her return from Europe also Maurer gets out. The band was on the verge of dissolution.

With a completely new line-up released Andy Eftichiou the third album Every Dog Has Its Day ( in Australia: Rebellious Youth ) on Music for Nations. The music has little to do with the original style of the band, Mortal Sin now played more commercial Power Metal, which nevertheless remained unsuccessful. In addition Eftichiou was sued by his ex-members, anmeldeten the legal rights to the band name. Unsuccessful, the band broke up.

1996 Mortal Sin reformed line-up Maurer, Campbell, Eftichiou and Carwana with Anthony Hoffman of Campbells band Grungeon. Also, this line-up did not last long: Carawana rose relatively short again and made way for Troy Scerri, a member of Campbell's second volume of White Trash. According to EP Revolution of the Mind and an unsuccessful tour, the band broke up again.

2004, there was a second reunion, this time with the ex-members Campbell, bricklayers and Eftichou, supplemented by the two guitarists Joe Buttigieg and Mick Sultana, both formerly of Addictive. A DVD with recordings of the first concert was released in 2004 and self-distributed. After induction into the Hall of Fame of the Brain & Kerrang Australian Heavy Metal Music Awards Campbell and Buttigieg got out again. On the Australian tour with Anthrax now play Luke Cook ( drums) and Nathan Shea with ( guitar). Both of which are in the band up to today. A new studio album called An Absence of Faith was released in 2007, in Germany via Armageddon Music. In the same year also released an official " bootleg " was released with the title Mortal Thrashing Mad 2008 Mortal Sin played the opening act for Overkill a European tour and played at various festivals such as Wacken Open Air and the Jalometalli.

Mortal Sin dissolved shortly after the departure of Mat Maurer in May 2012 finally on.

Music style

Although the two albums Mayhemic Destruction and Face of Despair sound very influenced by Metallica, the band struggled initially against this characterization:

"It's almost impossible not to be compared to Metallica. Just because Metallica play like they want to play and have a variable style does not mean that long that they are the only ones allowed that. "

A special feature in the otherwise predominantly critical of religion to hostile Thrash Metal represent the Christian elements, for example the cross in the band logo, and the partial Christian texts dar.
