Moșna, Sibiu

MOŠNA ( German Mosna, Transylvanian Saxon Mäschen, Hungarian Muzsna, Szászmuzsna ) is a municipality in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania, Romania. At her next to the eponymous capital of the villages Alma Vii ( pastures ) and Nemsa include ( Nimesch ).

Location

The village is located approximately in the middle of Transylvania in a south-facing side of the Târnava Mare (Grand Kokel ). The nearest major town Medias ( Medias ) is located about 10 km north-west; the county capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt) 66 km southwest of MOŠNA away.

History

Mosna was first mentioned in a document according to several sources in 1280 or 1283 as Musna. It was founded by German colonists ( Transylvanian Saxons ) at the same time originally settled with the neighboring Furkeschdorf to Adelboden, then won but along with the surrounding villages of the Media shear chair the Sibiu law and became a free commune of crown land.

In 1470 the remaining inhabitants of the devastated by the Turks Furkeschdorf settled according to Mosna and gave her village. The Gemeindehattert of Furkeschdorf was divided at the behest of King Matthias Corvinus between Mosna and Medias.

For a long time Mosna competed with the nearby Medias and Birthälm to the attainment of civic rights and supremacy in the Media shear chair. Since 1495 year and weekly markets were allowed to be held. Ultimately kept Medias because of its favorable position, however the upper hand. Mosna remained a village, albeit one of the largest in Transylvania.

Population

Mosna was shaped over many centuries by the Saxons. Since the official Census in 1850 to the end of the Second World War, about two-thirds of the inhabitants were German ( in 1941, for example, 1252 2144 ). Their number increased by emigration to Germany after the Second World War slowly, after the 1989 revolution rapidly.

In 2002 lived in Mosna 2326 people, of whom identified themselves as German 71, 1667 as Romanians, 523 as gypsies, 64 as Hungary and as a member of another nationality.

In the overall community Mosna lived 2002 3251 Population ( 2091 Romanians, 977 Gypsies, 95 Hungary, 83 German, four Ukrainians, 1 Pole).

Traffic

The place is located on a paved road that leads from Medias after Agnetheln. There are good bus connections to Medias, which is also the nearest railway station is on the railway line Teiuş - Kronstadt.

Attractions

In the center of the town, the mighty Meschener Burg Church with a still well-preserved double ring wall, which surrounds the end of the 15th century built late Gothic hall church. The church is of significant cultural historical value. Noteworthy are the Raiment of the sacristy door and the tabernacle. The architect was the renowned Sibiu Andreas Steinmetz Lapicida.
