Motorola A780

The Motorola A780 is a produced by Motorola foldable mobile phone. The Linux-based smartphone (also known as A780 ) available in an Asian and since August 2005, in a European version. European version differs from the Asian by the absence of the speech recognition, and the presence of a built-in navigation system. The A780 has a touch screen with a resolution of 240 × 320 pixels. In the closed state it is partially visible through a window in the door. About the numeric keypad, located on the flap below the window, the basic functions of the phone can also be accessed with the flip closed.

The A780 is distinguished from other smartphones by a small size of 107 × 54 × 24 mm, a reasonable price and high system stability. Criticized it was due to the immature PIM functionality, the limited supply of additional software and battery life ( this is depending on usage and display settings two to four days; enabled when using certain SIM cards of the network operator O ₂ has GPRS, this will reduce the battery life dramatically ). On the other hand, it is appreciated by the customers due to its Mobi Linux operating system and the associated opportunities.

Navigation system

The A780 has an integrated GPS receiver which allows together with the software CoPilot from ALK Technologies navigating by satellite tracking. The function of the navigation system is initially limited to a selectable from nine European regions, but can be extended by a fee- free circuit throughout Europe. An update of the maps or the associated PC software that would allow system to merge maps into the phone, was not produced by the manufacturer ALK Technologies. A purchase current map material is A780 -owners therefore not possible.
