Movelier

Movelier is a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Moder Wiler is no longer used today.

Geography

Movelier is located on 690 m above sea level. Level, 5 km north- northwest of the cantonal capital of Delémont ( straight line ). The former street line village is situated in a depression in the high hills of the northern Jura Mountains, near the border with France.

The area of ​​8.01 km ² large municipality area includes the well in which the settlement is located. In the north, the area extends to the range of hills of Haute Aibaiteuse (858 m above sea level. M. ), which is bounded by the valley of the evil Bach to the west by Bavelier Valley, to the east. The western boundary is the height of the Toré ( 835 m above sea level. M. ). Population

With 379 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012) is one Movelier to the smaller municipalities of the canton of Jura. Of the 76.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 22.8 % (as of 2000). The population of Movelier amounted in 1850 to 386 residents in 1900 to 272 inhabitants. Economy

History

First mention is the village in 1188 as Moderswilre, which is probably derived from the Germanic personal name Modhari. Movelier was one of the 13 free villages in the reign Dels mountain. The village belonged from 1389 to 1454 as a fief of the Counts of Thierstein, then she came to the Prince-Bishopric of Basel. From the 16th century was the largest part of its territory in the possession of the monastery Lucelle. Between 1793 and 1815 Movelier belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura. In the great fire of 25 September 1865, the rectory and 12 other homes were affected.

Attractions

The original construction of the parish church dates from 1591 In 1734 the church was rebuilt in 1899 and renovated in the late 20th century. ; the rectory was built in 1812. In the village there are still some old farmhouses dating from the 17th to the 19th century.
