Multyfarnham ( Irish: Muilte Farannáin, " Farannain 's mills ") is a small town in County Westmeath Ireland. The place is known by the monastery and by 2003 there existing agricultural school.

General

Monastery Multyfarnham

In 1268 the monastery of Irish Franciscans ( OFM) was founded, which to this day still manage. During the conquest of Ireland by the Tudors (the " Nine Years War " ), it was six times looted and burned twice in the fighting between the English and the local militia " Irish of Meath ". 1646 were 30 monks in the monastery, the number went through reprisals during the Plantation on seven returns. 1651 the church roof was demolished and in 1827 covered again. 1839 the monastery was rebuilt in 1899 opened the "Franciscan College " with four students in the first year. In 1956, the Colleg in an agricultural school was converted, which existed until 2003.

Around the monastery and the school building is to see a crossroads with 14 stations, one of the most beautiful Irish shrines outside and a tourism magnet. In Colleg now houses a seminar and art center.

Tourism, Sports, Traffic

As tourism attractions also riding routes and close to Lough Derravaragh with its trout fishing grounds, canoe sports facilities and mountain trails are offered. The local St.Fintans Multyfarnham Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club plays in the Westmeath Junior Football Championship and in the All County League Division 3

The station, which was designed for passenger and freight traffic, was opened on November 8, 1855, abandoned on 17 June 1963. He is now a residential building in private ownership.
