Muntenia

The Muntenia (Eng. also Muntenia, rum. Muntenia ) is a historical region in southern Romania. It includes the central and eastern part of Wallachia.

The region is bordered to the south and east of the Danube, north of the Carpathians and the River Milcov. In the West, the boundary of the landscape is formed by the river Olt, beyond which the Oltenia is.

In the eastern part Munteniens is the Bărăgan flat country which is a great grain -growing region because of the nutrient-rich soil and as " Romania's granary " applies.

The main town in the area is Bucharest, the capital. Other major cities are Braila, Ploiesti, Pitesti, Slatina, Alexandria, Giurgiu, Calarasi and Slobozia, and the former capitals of Wallachia Câmpulung, Curtea de Arges and Targoviste.
