Munzur Valley National Park

The Munzur Vadisi National Park ( Turkish Munzur Vadisi Millî Parkı ) is one of the largest and most diverse national parks in Turkey. It has an area of 420 km ² and is located in eastern Anatolia in the provinces of Tunceli and Erzincan. It includes the valley of the Munzur, a tributary of Murat, and large parts of Munzur Dağları. On 21 December 1971 he was declared a National Park. It was found out that the National Park is home to 1518 species of plants. Of these, 227 are endemic in Turkey and 43 endemic to the National Park, such as the Tunceli Garlic Allium tuncelianum.

Flora

Common trees of the national park are beech, oak, willow, poplar, Walloons oak, maple, alder, birch, wild apple, wild pear, walnut and cedar. Common species of wild flowers are tulip, hyacinth, narcissus, mean snowdrops, violets, camomile, fragrant goosefoot, Anafatma, tragacanth and wild thyme.

Endangered bird species that occur quite frequently in the national park, are ( Black Stork ), ( Bearded Vulture ), ( vulture ), ( griffon vulture ), ( Caspian King Chicken ), ( Snake Eagle ), ( Golden Eagle ), ( Buzzard ), ( Imperial Eagle ), ( Booted Eagle ), ( stone Dunnock ), ( Alpine accentor ), ( wallcreeper ), ( Alpendohle ) and ( snow Finch ).

Mammals

The most important mammals of the park are the dormouse (rock sleeper ), ( Wolf ), ( brown bear ), (otter), (wild cat), ( Eurasian lynx ), ( chamois ) and ( Capricorn). Other mammals in the park are wild hare, jackal, fox, weasel, stone marten, badger, wild boar, mountain goat, mountain sheep, gray squirrel, skunk and hedgehog.

Pisces

A rare fish of the National Park is the red-spotted trout.

More information

In the National Park there are many caves, but until now no systematic research. Therefore, there is great danger that unknown species could disappear. In Munzur National Park, there are several sinter terraces and natural thermal baths. This shows that Tunceli has a great potential for geothermal energy.

In Tunceli two dams were built. A further seven dams are planned. If these dams completed, sinking most of the national parks in the flooding of the reservoirs. The plans for the dams have already been completed. Subject to paragraph 23, Forest Law No. 6831 and the Act on the Protection of National Parks Ranked # 2873 the construction of dams is an illegal practice in these areas.
