Murat Karayalçın

Murat Karayalcin (* 1943 in Samsun) is a Turkish politician.

At the age of seven he had to leave his parents since he the climate of the Black Sea was not good. He went to Ankara to his aunt. There he attended the Miimar Kemal İlkokulu elementary school, middle school and the Gazi High School. In 1964 he began to study the economic and financial sciences at the Faculty of Political Science ( Mülkiye ) Ankara University. He finished his studies in 1968. In England, he wrote with a grant from the UN his bachelor thesis on the economy. He then worked in the State Planning Office (DPT ). Between 1978 and 1979 he worked as a senior official in the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture. Karayalcin was co-founder of cooperation Kent - Koop. There he was only responsible for the finances, then went up to the Secretary-General was 1981-1991 chairman. Karayalcin from 1986 to 1987 member of the Executive Board of the International Co-operative Housing Organisation ( ICHO ). From 1988 to 1993 he was chairman of the cooperation TURK KENT (Türkiye Kent Kooperatifi ). In order to relieve the city of Ankara, he launched a satellite city project under the name Batikent (West City). In 1986 he was awarded a prize in England, the same year the Turkish magazine Nokta voted him Businessman of the Year. Because he made the Turkey in the years 1987 to 1991 known abroad, he was awarded the Tütav Foundation. He was honored by the French Government with the Legion of Honour in 1993.

On March 26, 1989 he was a candidate of the Parti Sosyaldemokrat Halkçı ( SHP) was elected mayor of Ankara and stayed until September 1993 at the office. Karayalcin was elected at the 4th Congress of SHP on September 11, 1993 as a successor of Erdal İnönü as Chairman of the party. In the 50th Turkish government from 1993 to 1994 he was Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State and Foreign Minister. After the merger of SHP with the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi ( CHP briefly ) in 1995, he resigned from the post of party chairman. In the 20th legislative period of the Turkish Parliament, he was a deputy.

On 18 April 1999, he was the candidate of CHP in the election of the Mayor of Ankara, but lost the AKP candidate Melih Gökçek. In June 1999, he presented himself at the Congress of CHP for the election of the chairman. He later joined from from the CHP and wanted to start with Fikri Sağlar through alliances with left-wing groups, a new left-wing party. In May 2002, as the Halk Partisi Sosyaldemokrat was ( also briefly SHP ) was founded. In December 2008 he resigned from SHP to strive for in the local elections on 29 March 2009 as a CHP candidate back to the Lord Mayor of Ankara. He had once again beaten by Melih Gökçek.

Karayalcin is married and has one son since 1969.
