Murg (Thur)

River Murg in the Thur

The Murg is a 34.1 km long tributary of the river Thur in Switzerland. It rises in the Canton of St. Gallen at the elbow macaroni, flows through the canton of Thurgau and flows Warth near Frauenfeld in the Thur. In addition to Necker, Sitter and smooth the Murg is one of the main tributaries of the River Thur. The through by the Murg valley called Murg Valley.

Tributaries of the Murg

The Lützelmurg and Lauche flow in Matzingen in the Murg. The Tuenbach combines shortly before its confluence with the Murg with the leeks.

Communities on the course of Murg

On the banks of the Murg are from the source to the mouth of the following municipalities: Mosnang, Fischingen, Sirnach, Münchwilen, Wängi, Stettfurt, Matzingen and Frauenfeld. Previously was Frauenfeld on the right bank of the Murg. Due to the construction boom in the last few centuries, the Murg now flows through the city, however, which led to the construction of numerous small bridges.

Economy and Transport

The Murg drove once at many mills, including mill Matzingen. From about 1830 new textile factories is settled in Sirnach, Münchwilen, Rosental, Wängi, Jakobstal, Matzingen, Murkart and Frauenfeld and used the water power of the Murg.

The Frauenfeld -Wil -Bahn from Wil to Frauenfeld leaves Münchwilen along the Murg.
