Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris

The Musée d' Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris ( MAMVP ) (German Museum of Modern Art in Paris ) is a municipal museum of modern art in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and occupies the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo. It is divided into the two sections of the collection of modern art and contemporary art.

History

The building of the museum was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1937. On the occasion of this exhibition were works by Henri Matisse ( La Danse ), Pierre Bonnard (Le Nu dans le bain and Le Jardin ), Robert Delaunay (L' équipe de Cardiff ), André Derain (La Rivière ), Fernand Léger (Les Disques ), André Lhote (L' Escale ), Édouard Vuillard ( four works Portraits d'artistes ), Jean Metzinger (L' Oiseau bleu ), acquired large stage decorations of Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Albert Gleizes and Jacques Villon.

Its official opening as the Paris Museum of Modern Art was held in 1961. The collection is of international importance, the core of which was previously in the Museum of the Petit Palais. In addition, donations of Emanuele Sarmiento, Mathilde Amos and Ambroise Vollard enrich the collection inventory.

Organization

The museum is under the city of Paris, just as is the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris possession. The directors are appointed by the mayor of Paris.

Modern Art

Art theft in 2010

On the night of May 20, 2010, in the museum an art theft occurred, in which a total of five paintings were stolen with an estimated value of up to EUR 100 million ( other estimates range from 50 million euros from ). The theft, noticed shortly before door opening to 6.50 clock was recorded on video. An assailant came here without the alarm trigger, from the back of the museum. He broke it on a padlock and cut a window pane. 2012, the thief and two of his accomplices were made ​​secured, the images, however, are still missing.

The stolen works are: Lady with a Fan (1919) by Amedeo Modigliani, Dove with green peas ( 1912) by Pablo Picasso, The olive tree at L' Estaques (1907 ) by Georges Braque, Pastoral ( 1905) by Henri Matisse and still life with candle Fernand Léger.

Contemporary Art at the ARC

The Département de l' ARC ( entertainment, research, Confrontation ), MAMARC, MAM / ARC, the Department of Contemporary Art at the Musée d' Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. It was built in December 1966 by Pierre Gaudibert and the curator Suzanne Pagé and had until 1988 an independent state. The first exhibition was held in January 1967.
