A typical representative is the central European ants Grille Myrmecophilus acervorum, females

Myrmecophilus is the most diverse genus of the family of ants crickets ( Myrmecophilidae ). They, together with the genera Myrmophilellus, Camponophilus, Eremogryllodes and Microbothriophylax the subfamily of Myrmecophilinae. Species of the genus are found almost worldwide, indicating an ancient origin of the genus.

Features

Myrmecophilus species are a maximum of about 4.7 millimeters long, in which the males are slightly smaller and slimmer than the females. Your body is oval and wingless. The eyes are very small, the antennae thick and just about as long as the body. The pronotum is large, and across the front narrower than the rear. The femora of the hind legs are remarkably thick.
