Naamah (Genesis)

Naama (Hebrew: נעמה " lovely, hold", also: Naamah ) is the name of two women, a village and a landscape that is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible.

Daughter of Cain

In Gen. 4.22 EU Naama is a joint subsidiary of Lamech and Zillah mention. She came therefore from Adam 's eldest son Cain. Naamas brother was Tubal- Cain, the ancestor of all blacksmiths and metal craftsmen. The Bible also mentions two half-brothers Naamas, Jabal and Jubal. It is striking that, unlike her brothers, no particular reason is given for their mention. In fact, she is the only woman in the biblical prehistory, which appears as the daughter of another person. Usually found only ( first-born ) sons mention. In the comments to the Tanakh of Shlomo ben Yitzchak, a prominent rabbi of the 11th and early 12th century, it therefore appears as the wife of Noah, whose name is otherwise unknown in the Bible.

After the medieval scholar Gregorius Bar - Hebraeus ( 1225/26-1286 ) Naama taught the women to feel beautiful dress and hair done, to sing and dance. She is said to have invented the make-up. Naama was the first of the women who were later referred to as " daughters of Cain " and the tradition of Arab Singing Girls ( Qaina ) opened. The Qaina attended with her vocal artistry and her feminine charms in wine shops and grand celebrations for the entertainment of male guests. Her three brothers Jubal, Jabal, and Tubal - Cain shall be deemed the inventor of music, especially the lyre kinnor, blacksmithing and the nomadic donkey breeding.
