Nadezhda Chizhova

Nadezhda Vladimirovna Tschischowa (Russian Надежда Владимировна Чижова; born September 29, 1945 in Ussolje - Sibirskoye in the Irkutsk Oblast, Soviet Union) is a former Russian track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

Tschischowa dominated from the mid- 60s to mid-70s, the European scene in the shot put. In her athletic career, she improved the world record nine times and won the gold medal in the shot put at the European Championships in the years 1966, 1969, 1971 and 1974.

In the XIX. Summer Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968, she won the bronze medal behind the two East Germans Margitta Gummel ( gold) and Marita Lange ( silver). In the XX. 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, she was in top form, and won the gold medal ahead of Margitta Gummel ( silver) and the Bulgarian Iwanka Christowa (bronze). At the end of their sporting career, she was already passed the peak of their performance at the XXI. Summer Olympics 1976 in Montréal once again everything and won the silver medal behind Ivanka Christowa ( gold ) and before the Czecho Slovakian Helena Fibingerová (bronze).
