Nadja Michael

Nadja Michael (* 1969 in Wurzen ) is a German opera song, and oratorio singer (mezzo- soprano and soprano April 2005 ).

Biography and artistic work

Nadja Michael grew up in Gerichshain. After they should be competitive swimmer first at the Children's and Youth Sports School in Leipzig, she later moved to the Special School of Music. In 1989, she left the GDR via Hungary and settled in Stuttgart. There she worked in shops and as a model to study singing can finance. She studied voice at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington. She won competitions such as the singing competition of the Federation of German Industry and a scholarship from the Study Foundation of the German people. Her operatic debut was in 1993 at the Ludwigsburg Festival as third lady in " The Magic Flute". The first major role was the singer in the Amastris " Xerxes " by George Frideric Handel at the Opera House in Wiesbaden in 1996. Followed the Carmen, Dulcinée, Olga and Varvara.

International she appeared at the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, La Scala in Milan, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the New National Theatre in Tokyo and at Carnegie Hall as well as at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Nadja Michael's repertoire included mainly the large lots of French and Italian field, but also Kundry at the Frankfurt Opera and Hanna Glawari in " The Merry Widow" at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden.

Since her change of subject, she sings roles like Tosca, Lady Macbeth, Salome, Fidelio and Santuzza. In addition to a voluminous and multifaceted voice, the singer also convinces with a high game talent. However, there are those who see their change of subject for soprano critical. At the Teatro alla Scala, however, the singer of "Salome" a success celebrated in the spring of 2007 in Luc Bondy's production.

The artist also occurs with songs and oratorios. Her repertoire includes works by Richard Wagner, Robert Schumann, Hugo Wolf, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Giuseppe Verdi and others.

Nadja Michael has two daughters. She lives in Berlin's Westend.
