Næstved is a Danish town on South Zealand and belongs to Region Sjælland ( Zealand ). Næstved is also the capital of the homonymous municipality within the region. The municipality covers an area of 681 km ² and has existed since 1 January 2007 from the former municipalities Fladså, Fuglebjerg, Holmegaard, Næstved ( 1970-2006 199.84 km ²) and Suså. The most important industries are paper and electronics industries.

History

In the Middle Ages, the industrial and port city was an important spiritual center at the mouth of Suså in the Karrebæk Fjord. In 1946, near the village of the man Porsmose, a Neolithic bog bodies, have been found.

Attractions

Tourist attractions include the medieval cityscape with old houses, the Apostle House ( 1520), the Town Hall ( 1450-1520 ), the Holy Spirit pin ( 15th century ), the Hanseatic Kompagniehaus (14th century) and the Gothic St. Peter's ( 13 to 15. century). 2 km north of the city center is the former monastery Herlufsholm, since 1565 a boarding school.

6 km southwest of Næstved is the island Gavnø, on which the castle is Gavnø, which was built in the rococo style. It was built on the site of an earlier, applied by Margaret I. monastery in 1755 bis 1758. Traffic
