Nakhon Si Thammarat ( Thai: นครศรีธรรมราช, formerly Mueang Lakhon, Ligor, also Tambralinga, alternative indisierende notation: " Nagara Sri Dharmaraja " ) is a province ( Changwat ) in the southern region of Thailand. Location

The Nakhon Si Thammarat province lies about 780 kilometers south of Bangkok on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula to the Gulf of Thailand.

The province consists of a high plateau and mountains in the west, the landscape falls to the east from a pool. Jungle scenery, waterfalls and diverse vegetation are characteristic of the area.

History

The province and its capital dominated before the Empire of Sukhothai the southern region of the later Siam. Here was an important center of Buddhism during the Srivijaya period. Also, an important Buddha relic is kept here, the Nakhon Si Thammarat has made a point of attraction.
